Self Portrait Tuesday: my 2nd birthday

This is my first contribution to Self Portrait Tuesday and the theme this month is personal history. I was flicking through old photos today, to see what I could find, when this photo of me on my 2nd birthday caught my eye. It was the first time that I’ve seen my Mum’s face in my own.

I feel that so much of the way I look is made up of the big forehead and tiny nose of hydrocephalus and the Marchant mouth, that it was quite a surprise to suddenly notice the other element of my parentage staring out at me. I don’t know if it’s still there in my features twenty-two years later, but I hope so.
