7 Days: Day 6 – going over the stile
12 July 2007
It was past dinner time and I still hadn’t done my self-portrait – and still had no idea what I was going to do for it. A few random shots indoors and then my remote decided to give up working at all. What is it with that thing? Why is she such a hormonal little beast?
I packed my camera into my rucksack and headed off for a wander to see if there was anything inspiring outside. I sat by the stream for a long time, listening to it gurgle and tinkle along and took pictures of my feet dangling over the bank. There’s a little piece of the bank that has formed over an old stump which juts out above the water. I sat down here and it was only several minutes later, when i came to swing my legs over the side through the grass, that I discovered that I was right on the edge. See? A centimetre more to my right when sitting down and I’d have lost my balance and fallen straight in. Which may well have made a good self-portrait.
After watching the water I headed off along my usual route and stopped astride the stile to watch the world and to laugh at the sheep and the ridiculous noise some of them were making. There’s the odd one that doesn’t just bleat, but rather shouts. BAAA! BAAAAAAA! … CAN YOU HEAR ME? I SAID … BAAAA! And that makes me laugh.
