In which I plant more vegetables to complain about
3 September 2008
Standing in my room in my all together last night the air, the world around me suddenly felt very autumnal, which admittedly may have been because I was standing there in my all together. And indeed outside the season does seem to be turning in my vegetable patch. Where, it should be noted, I do not stand in my all together. But where the potato haulms are beginning to die back, the broad beans have given up and fallollopped and my pathetic little sweetcorn is attempting to form a cob for me to disdain and throw into the compost.
In some bare ground I’ve sown some turnip seeds and the seedlings are beginning to appear above the soil. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll do with a bunch of turnips. Maybe I’ll buy a horse to whom I can feed them. That’s probably the most sensible plan. There are also a couple of rows of spring onions in there too, but there’s no sign of them yet. It’ll be interesting to see if they fare any better than the other onions in the patch.

Yes…it is definitely starting to feel like autumn here as well. Where did the summer go? It was too short!

I would like to offer a home to the future turnips. I am quite sure that Henry (Tash’s horse) would give them a good chewing :)
