Inside and outside
10 January 2009
The first pansy seedling showed itself yesterday, 9 days after I first poured water onto the madness that is my pansy in a tin. It was a cold day, much as it is today, and having photographed the seedling on the window sill I was huddled up against the radiator reading my news magazine. The camera was still next to me, which was a damn fine piece of luck as into the tree outside my window flew four long-tailed tits … then a bit later a blue tit came along … and then finally a goldcrest. With a big flock of pigeons having also circled overheard during the afternoon I wondered for a moment if perhaps Tippi Hedren was sitting on our roof. But no, the long-tailed tits had simply found the almost empty coconut shell, with just a little of the bird food I’d made still inside. Being so tiny there were times when all four of them were feeding from the shell at the same time. Not that they kept still for long, constantly flitting from branch to branch, but generously pausing in the late afternoon sun for a moment here and there so that I could capture just how pretty they were.

Lovely photos. The new green of the sprout is certainly welcome on a dreary winter day :)

Love the birdie photos, and love the mental image of Tippe Hedren on your roof! She must be quite “pecked over” by now! heh…
