SNOW!
2 February 2009
Apologies for shouting, but we don’t get proper snow very often. SNOW! The first flakes of yesterday afternoon turned into a few inches overnight. During which time John’s first flakes turned into an almost improper 14 inches.
My plan had been to wait for the snow to stop falling about mid-morning and then head out for a walk. Fortunately I decided that I couldn’t be bothered for the snowfall to stop, as I’d still be waiting eight hours later. Wrapped up warm I headed off on a familiar route, along by the stream and through the fields. Paw prints and footprints bore witness to early-risers who had walked the same paths, but I didn’t see many people outside. Just a few kids on sleds and a couple who joined me while I was talking to the horses, the husband with a Nikon D300 slung around his neck.
The snow was falling pretty heavily as I trudged onward across a wide open field. Then I remembered something people talk about doing in the snow. Nobody was around, so I tipped my head back, faced into the falling snow and stuck out my tongue to catch a snowflake. *Bam*- a snowflake right in the eye.
