When last in Germany, I thanked someone who held a lift door open for me in Italian. I don't speak Italian.

OhMyGosh! your post made me choke with laughter. That is EXACTLY what happened to me! Twice!

I have learned German, all.of.my.life. Its been YEARS since my last German class, yet when I was trying to teach English to Spanish-speaking people, all my German sentences were formulating in my head. I remembered vocabulary I had long-ago forgotten. . .

But get this! When I went to Taiwan. . .I began formulating SPANISH sentences. I can barely say "hello" in Spanish! What's the deal?

I *Loved* reading about your adventures.

I guess somebody's got to go there, or all the tourist places would go out of business. . . good thing you are so supportive.
