a day without hyperbole is a day wasted

She always has the last word

3 September 2009

Last night I was counting the weeks in my calendar between the end of the summer run of 7 Days and the start of what will be the winter/Christmas run in order to find the start date of the autumn run: 3rd October. The trouble is, I thought, that though these runs are quarterly they tend to get out of sync with the seasons they are meant to represent; our autumn doesn’t really show itself until November. That’s when there are piles of leaves on the ground, ripe for kicking through.

Except just now, as I fought against the gusting wind to cycle up to the school to post some letters, I saw fallen acorns scattered on the ground and hop vines and deep red hawthorn berries hanging in the hedgerows. Point taken, Mother Nature.
