Plaited dough
2 November 2009
Another idea for a salt dough creation for my Etsy shop – this time a little more intricate. I rolled out three long sausages of salt dough, plaited them together and formed them into a wreath. After cooking in the oven, I then carefully painted it to look like separate red, gold and green strands had been plaited together. It’s the same back and front, but the back’s a bit flatter, so it could be hung on a wall for example.
I’m also learning on the photography side of things. Trying to get colours to look as they should is often a challenge, but putting varnish on them then doubles that challenge with all the shine. Bounce the flash off the ceiling though, and hey presto, you’ve got a photo that looks like the item before you – hurrah!

I deliberated over this too. Bouncing flash off the ceiling? Blimey, that wouldn’t have even crossed my mind. Mind you, the flash on my camera is sufficient to burn retinas at 50 paces.
