New growth

The forage rye is up

Little red-green blades of forage rye are now peeking up above the soil in the vegetable patch. I discovered them this morning when I went out to put some peelings in my compost bin during a break in our seemingly incessant rainfall. There they proudly stood, glinting in the low winter sun.

How exciting that something still feels like growing during the cold season.
