Lady Liberty
Today was our downtown day. We visited Ground Zero and then headed to Battery Park. My interest in Wilhelm Moberg’s “Emigrants” books and the musical Kristina by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus means that Battery Park and Ellis Island, with its history as the first stop for immigrants, hold particular significance and interest for me. A day with friends
We spent most of today with Bethany, Troy, Annalie, Elliora, Sonja and Noah in Central Park. Fantastic sunshine and great company. They’re on their way back to Washington now and after a well-earned rest at the hotel, we’ll be heading out soon for some food and then to see the night-time view of the city [...]
The view from our window tonight
We visited the Empire State Building this afternoon, ate at a diner, where I tried a chocolate egg cream and we did an audio tour of Grand Central Terminal. Now we’re about ready for bed and looking forward to meeting internet friends tomorrow in Central Park.

High-pitched idiocy
A dinner date was arranged last night at Frankie and Benny’s for me and Suzy to discuss any final things before our trip to New York (24th May!). We arrived separately, me first. The waitress cleared our allotted table and invited me to sit. In order to not look too much of a sad sap, [...]
A very royal picnic
How is it already a week and a half since we gathered in Lauren’s sitting room to eat far too much food? I guess time disappears when you actually have to go to work and Fridays and Mondays are no longer the part of the deliciously long weekends that they have been recently. In honour [...]
Veg patch 2011 begins
That’s the vegetable patch before I began work. I’d dumped all kinds of rotten leaves and silt from the pond that needed digging in and growing in abundance were poppies and sunflowers, growing from dropped bird seed. I dug everything over, kicked out the weeds and marked out where the plants would go. I made [...]
