7 Days: Day 7 – The third day of Christmas

Last day, folks! It’s been another great week and thank you all for playing along. My Day 7 contribution is a joint John/Sarah effort, as John’s is today. John’s holding the camera and you’ll see me with its remote, which is many times the size of the one for my D80, crouching by the girls’ high chairs after dinner, talking to my nieces. Meanwhile Anya bites me with her two very sharp teeth and her sister and father do nothing to help me.

Today was day 3 of Christmas for us, with a visit from John, Sam and the babies. We all had a lot of fun and we’ve sent them home again with a variety of new noisy, shiny toys. Tomorrow I’m looking forward to doing very little and not wearing any degree of posh clothes. I might still wear my dangly snowman earrings though.

7 Days: Day 6 – It wasn’t me

We are at my aunt and uncle’s today for Boxing Day … and of course, being my cousin, Russ is here too. The outside tree is beautifully covered in lights and so I went out to admire them and take my picture. Not long after I returned indoors, Dad noticed that a swathe of lights in the middle had gone out, but I was able to prove with my photos that they’d been fine when I’d left them! Uncle Terry soon fixed them though (and trod on the cat, but that wasn’t planned), so all is right with the world again. Phew. Even if Russ is currently heckling me for writing such a long description. But he’s wearing silly Homer Simpson slippers, so his words don’t hold much authority right now. If ever. Damn boy.

7 Days: Day 5 – Touching up the makeup

… with a little vanilla-coloured eyeshadow from the palette. There are some nice shades in this set and you can probably see that the mid-brown has been worn through to the base.

That magnificent mirror was a present from Mum and Dad today. Whether it lives on my dresser or not, or only comes out when in use, depends on whether or not I give myself a stroke catching sight of my own (unexpected) reflection in it every time I come into the room.

7 Days: Day 4 – Christmas Eve

Suzy and I celebrated Christmas Eve with Chinese takeaway tonight. The plan was to watch Love Actually too, but it turned out, I suppose unsurprisingly, that we can fill an evening with talking quite easily, so the DVD stayed in my bag.

The Chinese food was delicious and we polished off a bottle of delightful pink fizz too. We’re both sensing the possibility of a new tradition …

We decided to “be European” and exchange gifts tonight – Suzy gave me a beautiful pin for a buttonless cardigan I bought during our recent pillage of H&M, as well as an always welcome chocolate orange.

Above she’s studying the posh chocolates I gave her and on her lap is the upholstery book that accompanied them. See that stool under the mantelpiece? Suzy reupholstered that herself and now it stands there waiting to be put to use when Suzy hosts Christmas for her family tomorrow.

This takeaway place makes the best chicken satay ever and is a large proportion of the reason I suggested having Chinese takeaway. I’m glad to say that I was not disappointed and got thoroughly covered in bits of peanut and satay sauce, which I licked up in a most unladylike manner.

7 Days: Day 3 – Pumpkin massacre

This afternoon I’m turning my fingernails yellow as I chop, peel and cook 14.5kg pumpkin. The job should get done today, which is in sharp – and pleasant – contrast to the three tiring days the job took me for my last pumpkin harvest in 2007. Back then I had 32kg of pumpkin to deal with. Mind you, the photo set I made of the process has been quite useful for reference today.

Seeing as we still have bags and bags of pumpkin in the freezer from 2007, I think this next lot should help keep us going for the next decade or two.

7 Days: Day 2 – Chocolate by streetlight

We spent the afternoon with John, Sam and Lily and Anya and were handed Twirl chocolate bars almost as soon as we walked through the door. I saved mine and ate it in the car on the way home, thereby having my pudding before the main course of scampi and chips that came at home. I know! Such a rebel! But it’s ok, I’ve evened it out by having a segment of chocolate orange now, so all is well in the world.

7 Days: Day 1 – No tunes and no clue

Mmm, shiny new iPod Shuffle. It’s intended as my gym buddy, but I’ll be going to the gym in a minute without it, as I haven’t made the time to make the playlist for it yet. Any suggestions as to what songs I should include?

Also, if someone could insert the chip into my brain that let me understand how Instagram works exactly, so I don’t sit here with a knitted brow while my picture appears in places I wasn’t quite expecting, before I was expecting it, that would be great. And at the same time it could also explain to me why I couldn’t see Hipstamatic on my screen, which, it turns out, was actually what I was looking for.

I like the idea of being able to take and post pictures with my (other new) iPod, I just wish I understood it better. I usually feel as though such things are Penny to my Sheldon, but in this case she’s just asked me who Justin Bieber is.

7 Days: Day 7 – Turning out the lights

Turning out the lights after a long day. It started at 5.50am when a dream about needing the loo, going to the loo, but then still needing the loo merged into realising that I was now awake and needing the loo. Only it turned out that that wasn’t actually causing the discomfort. Everyone’s favourite aunt was making her imminent arrival known, so I trotted downstairs to get some painkillers and what we call The Warmy Thing (one of those microwaveable wheat/lavender pads). Then I completely failed to get back to sleep, which may just explain why I’m now very much ready for bed. And the weekend.

7 Days: Day 6 – Ode to a Hobnob

I’ve been eating quite a few Hobnob biscuits recently, having re-discovered their yumminess and habit of being relatively high in fibre for a sweet treat. I mean, come on – 0.8g of fibre in one biscuit? It’s practically a leafy green vegetable!
