a day without hyperbole is a day wasted

Lady Godiva

Suzy celebrated her 30th birthday at the weekend with a ceilidh, which is a party with Scottish or Irish folk music and dancing. It was hilarious fun and I’ll post more about the party, but for now, here’s a taster of the dancing.

7 Days: Day 7 – The third day of Christmas

Last day, folks! It’s been another great week and thank you all for playing along. My Day 7 contribution is a joint John/Sarah effort, as John’s is today. John’s holding the camera and you’ll see me with its remote, which is many times the size of the one for my D80, crouching by the girls’ [...]

28/30: And you thought pine needles were messy

Yes, boys and girls, you too could have a hot pink Christmas tree with its own falling polystyrene snow. I’m guessing this isn’t really intended for households with babies or kittens … or taste.

25/30: CDWM: My dessert

I wasn’t aware of any typical Mexican dessert until I watched a cookery show on TV, which introduced me to churros, little donut sticks that can be dunked in warm chocolate sauce. As I’d never tasted, never mind made them before, I had a trial run and tried out various methods of reheating them too. [...]

24/30: A moo point

Way back in the summer – remember that time? – Suzy turned up one afternoon with a craft for us to do. A craft! She had a couple of little papier mâché animals and a packet of patterned tissue paper, a couple of brushes and a pot of glue. I took the cow and we [...]

22/30: CDWM II: My main course

Having practised the quesadillas in advance I knew I needed to put more filling between the two tortillas. More constipation cheese for everybody! I’d done a fair amount of preparation during the day, chopping, grating and crumbling and so when it came to constructing the dishes, I just had boxes full of things to sprinkle [...]

19/30: CDWM II: My starter

Having already told you a little about the preparation I did for my Come Dine With Me evening, you know that I was getting ready for a Mexican evening. And that is why, when my guests turned up, I answered the door to them wearing my embroidered top from Ecuador and one of the four [...]

14/30: It burns well!

My usual spiel about Hubert von Goisern, the Austrian musician whose website I founded and have run for 11 years, always includes an explanation about how it’s difficult to give an impression of his popularity and success in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, because their charts are flooded with British and American artists. So the usual [...]
